BUCKINGHAMSHIRE

The Patch, MK

Claiming to be unbeaten on size, The Patch MK has over 500,000 pumpkins and squash in its 50-acre pick your own fields this autumn. Alongside picking, children will love exploring family-friendly side-shows like the climbing wall and combine harvester. You can even head here at night from 6pm – 9.30pm for pumpkin-picking by moonlight, accompanied by live music from local artists and a fully licensed bar. This event has sold out every year for the last five, so book now to guarantee a space.

Peterley Manor Farm, Great Missenden

This family farm is always a great PYO day out as entry is free and there’s no pre-booking required. This year’s pumpkin picking dates are Saturday 12 - Sunday 13, Saturday 19 - Sunday 20, and Saturday 26 - Sunday 27 October. There are around 9,000 pumpkins in the fields, and once you’ve filled your wheelbarrow there’s face painting, games, pop-up food and photo ops.

Hogshaw Farm and Wildlife Park, Buckingham

The Hogshaw Farm and Wildlife Centre in MK becomes the Hogshaw School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from Saturday 26 October – Friday 1 November. Children can follow the Herbology Tutor through the Wizarding Walled Garden to pick their pumpkin before decorating it in the company of their fellow wizards. There’s also potion-making and magical owl shows at the Owlery.

Farmer Paul’s, Aylesbury

If the weather’s inclement you can choose your pumpkin from inside a Pumpkin Barn here at Weedon Hill Farm, an eight-minute drive from Aylesbury. As well as the classic orange Jack-o-lantern pumpkin, there’s a complete range of pumpkins and squash here, with the price you pay dependent on size. Open Thursday – Sunday until Sunday 27th  October, and every day during half-term.

Lillingstone, Lillingstone Dayrell

Lillingstone family friendly farm have a pick your own pumpkin patch, themed pony rides, tractor rides, pumpkin picking by torchlight, magic shows, face-painting, and even professional photoshoots for an Insta-perfect family snap. Booking in advance is required.

 

HERTFORDSHIRE

Hitchin Lavender, Hitchin

Wonderful to visit in the summer months for lavender picking, at this time of year a dedicated pumpkin patch is open from 13 – 28 October. The location is beautiful and offers plenty of backdrops for photo opportunities, and there’s street food and hot drinks on offer. Book in advance to secure an entry slot and you’re welcome to stay until it closes at 5pm. £3 per person and under twos go free.

Willows Activity Farm, near St Albans

This Peter Rabbit themed farm near St Albans is holding its annual Pumpkin Festival on 14-15 and 19 – 31 October, with a picking patch, pumpkin hunt, gourd grotto and a programme of animal-based activities. Tickets from £23.95 per person (under twos free) including all shows and activities and one free pumpkin per paying child.

Rumbler’s Farm Shop, Potten End

This Potten End farm shop near Berkhamsted has hundreds of pumpkins in all shapes, sizes and colours, entry is free and there’s no booking required, you just pay for what you take away.

 

BEDFORDSHIRE

Mead Open Farm, Leighton Buzzard

As part of Mead Open Farm’s Freaky Funfest, which runs from 21 – 29 October, you can pick your own pumpkin to carve at home and meet some live roaming characters in the patch. There will be monster missions, scary tales and a spooktacular circus, all adding up to plenty of fun for a half term family day out. Adults from £12.95, children from £11.95, with a discount if you book online. Your pumpkin is included in the ticket price.

The Secret Farm, Moggerhanger

You’ll be spoiled for choice with the many different varieties of pumpkin and squash on offer here, and when you’ve made your selection, there’s a straw maze, pumpkin canon, mini tractors, pumpkin carving, Go Karting, activity trails and space hoppers for children to enjoy too. Extra paid-for activities include laser tag, tractor barrel rides and face painting. Food and drink will also be on offer, from burgers to hog roast and veggie options, as well as a licensed bar. The farm is open every Saturday and Sunday until Halloween, plus Monday 30th and Tuesday 31st October. Tickets are £3 and under threes go free, and pumpkins cost from £1 to £10 each.

 

NORTHAMPTONSHIRE

Kislingbury Sunnies and Spooks

This family farm is bursting with over twenty varieties of seasonal pick your own pumpkins. Open for pumpkin picking from now until 31 October, there’s also Halloween face-painting, a spooky Halloween trail, bale mountain, classic tractors and ride-ons, a children’s playhouse area and a vintage railway carriage café selling coffee, hot food, and cakes.

Boughton House, Geddington

During Halloween weekend 26-31 October, this free to enter pumpkin patch near Kettering will open for its second season. Refreshments are on offer and spooky themed games include pumpkin bowling.

Fotheringhay Pumpkin Patch, Peterborough

Based at Stonepit Lodge Farm in the village of Fotheringhay, this family farm is perfect for picking your own. There’s no need to book and its free entry plus children’s activities, mini tractors, and farmyard animals. Open from now until Halloween.

Wappenham Farm, Towcester

Wappenham Farm’s Pumpkin Spooktacular is now open until 31 October. Collect a wheelbarrow and choose your pumpkins, then follow the 3D spooky trail around the farm (3D glasses and map included) and fire the corn canons. Refreshments are available at the Tipi Café, and there’s a Halloween shop.

Saxby’s Cider, Grange Farm, Farndish

There will be plenty of assorted sizes, colours and varieties of pumpkin and squash to choose from here, plus there’s a bar and hot food, as well as trailer rides and children’s story-telling sessions on selected days at the weekend. Open 12-31 October. All sorts of options for the day are available to book online.

 

OXFORDSHIRE

Hadsham Farm, near Banbury

Now in its fourth year, this pumpkin picking farm is now a Cotswolds hotspot and is hosting a pumpkin festival to celebrate. After picking you can decorate it, take it home and cook it, or try pumpkin-all-ways at the new Pumpkin Munchery. Young children will love the spooky sensory trail and goblin hunt. Open from Saturday 19 - Thursday 31 Oct and pre-booking is required.
