20 Family Days out in Spring 2025
The spring events calendar is now in full swing, with a wide variety of family days out and sporting events to look forward to across our region. Grab your diary and make a date for these events coming up in April and May, many of which are well worth booking now:
BUCKINGHAMSHIRE
Waddesdon Manor Easter trail, Wednesday 9th – Sunday 13th April and Wednesday 16th – Monday 21st April.
Starting on the North Front of the Manor, the trail makes its way around the grounds before ending at the Coach House where eggs can be collected. To guarantee a place, tickets must be pre-booked at £3.50 per child. Weather permitting, there are plenty of idyllic spots in the gardens to spread out a blanket and enjoy an al fresco lunch.

Stowe House Easter Weekend Crafts, Friday 18th April – Monday 21st April
Over the Easter weekend, a gazebo in the courtyard is the location for a variety of free activities for children, from crown-making to creative Easter-themed crafts. Outside there are plenty of picnic benches where you can relax and watch children playing on the lawn with giant play blocks and jigsaw puzzles.

Kimble Point to Point, Saturday 19th April
The UK’s most popular family point-to-point race meeting is held annually in Little Kimble, 5 miles south of Aylesbury, on Easter Saturday. Gates open at 10:30 and the racing starts at 12:10.
Stoke Goldington Classic Car Show, Sunday 11th May 12pm – 3pm
Stokes Golden Classics is a classic car and nostalgia event run which takes place in Stoke Goldington Village near Newport Pagnell, and which welcomes cars, bikes, tractors, and steam engines. Entry tickets are available but need to be booked asap.

Willen Lake, MK, Saturday 5th – Monday 21st April
A free Easter trail will run every day during the Easter holidays, from 10am to 4pm. The 1 km trail follows a circular route that starts and ends at the Watersports Centre. The trail is most suited to children under 8 years of age, but everyone is welcome to take part and enjoy a day out in the parkland.

Wendover Woods – Saturday 5th – Monday 21st April
If you’re looking for action-packed family days out this Easter, Go Ape Wendover, near Tring and Aylesbury, is the perfect destination. In heart of Wendover Woods, choose between three high ropes courses, designed for all ages and abilities.

Longwick Village Fete, Saturday 3rd May
This annual spring fete held in the Buckinghamshire village of Longwick never fails to disappoint. Classic country fete games, craft stall and live music makes this a great day out for all the family, at a cost of just £2 per adult, and free for children.

BEDFORDSHIRE
Mead Open Farm, Saturday 5th – Monday 21st April
One of the first open farms in the county, Mead Open Farm covers 30 acres and is home to farmyard animals and pets, as well as a herd of alpacas. This Easter there will be a circus, chance to bottle feed lambs, and an Easter trail. Tickets from £18.35 pp

Elstow Abbey May Festival, Saturday 3rd May
Organisers invite you to walk in the footsteps of John Bunyan with their 21st century version of Vanity Fair. Family fun includes Maypole dancing, a May Queen procession, and a fun fair.

Bedford Regatta, Saturday 10th May
One of the largest single day river regattas in the country, for the 159th consecutive year rowers will race through the heart of the town on the picturesque River Great Ouse.
Canoe Trail, Bedford
This family-run business offers canoe, kayak, and paddleboard hire on the River Great Ouse. Whether you want to mess about on the river or have a full body work out there is a river trip to suit you, with full day and half day options.
NORTHAMPTONSHIRE
Evenley Wood Garden, Easter Egg Hunt, Friday 4th – Monday 21st April
Just outside the pretty village of Evenley, this 60-acre private woodland is world-famous for its rare snowdrop collection, plants, and trees. Children can hunt for eggs hidden around the gardens, and the finder of a giant golden bunny hidden in the wood will be rewarded with a giant chocolate egg. Entry is £7.50 per child, adults £9.50.
Delapré Abbey, Friday 18th –Monday 21st April
A hidden gem within walking distance of Northampton town centre, Delapre Abbey sits in 500 acres of formal and semi-formal gardens and woodland which are free to visit although pre-booking a time slot is essential. This year their Easter Eggstravaganza promises an Easter hunt in the walled garden. £5 per person, which includes craft activities and an interactive hunt inside the Abbey.

Boughton House, Sunday 13th – Monday 14th April
Known as the English Versailles, the landscaped gardens and park at Boughton House are considered among the grandest in the country. Beautiful waterways, ponds and fountains sit alongside a vast walled garden, rose garden and sensory garden, and provide a perfect setting for a springtime picnic. A new event this Easter involves games and a special spring trail around the gardens.

HERTFORDSHIRE
Hertfordshire County Show, Saturday 24th – Sunday 25th May
From Shetland pony racing to shopping, motor bike stunt riders to dogs and ducks, the Herts Show Ground in Redbourn offers something for everyone. All funds raised go to the Hertfordshire Agricultural Society, a registered charity which promotes local farming and agriculture, and its related crafts, trades, and professions.

Blenheim Palace, Friday 5th – Monday 21st April

Edgcote Races, Sunday 13th April 2025
Just north of Banbury, Bicester Hunt with Whaddon Chase host an afternoon of racing comprised of 7 races including the Edgcote Gold cup. Alongside this will be many more fun activities and stalls for children and families to enjoy, including a bar. Children go free and well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Grafton Hunt Pony Club Open Hunter Trials, Sunday 13th April
Held at the Milton Keynes Equestrian Centre in Hanslope. Open to both Pony Club members and non-members, with a range of courses including Mini, Main, Individual and Pairs. There’s also an opportunity to enter the Qualifier for Eland Lodge National Hunter Trial Championships.
