Property description

A Grade II listed Victorian two bedroom semi detached cottage on the edge of the village in a plot of approximately 0.22 acres with views over neighbouring fields and Harrold and Odell Country Park beyond.

The property is originally believed to date from the 1850s and is a former estate cottage of Odell Castle. It was also the former village post office. It is constructed of Limestone rubble under a clay tiled roof. It requires refurbishment and modernisation, but has the potential to extend and refurbish to purchaser’s specific requirements subject to any necessary permissions. Additional buildings also provide potential for conversion and refurbishment to individual requirements. The cottage is at the far end of the High Street, with a frontage bound by stone walling with an opening into the driveway and a detached single open fronted garage. A postman’s gate opens into the garden which is southerly facing and a particular feature of the property. It is principally lawned with two outdoor seating areas, tall mature trees for screening, and views over fields and Harrold and Odell Country Park. The detached outbuilding is stone built and was previously used as a workshop.

Accommodation

The sitting room has an open fireplace and views of the garden. The dining area is at the front overlooking open fields and is open plan to the kitchen which has fitted units, a sink, space and plumbing for appliances, and a door to the garden. A door from the dining room leads to the family room which can also be accessed from the High Street. There are currently two bedrooms, and the first floor landing could be adapted for use as an additional bedroom if required. The dual aspect principal bedroom has exposed floorboards, and a door to the bathroom.

Situation and Schooling

Odell has mainly 17th and 18th century stone buildings in a conservation area in a wider area of special landscape value. The village has a refurbished public house and a 15th century church. Harrold and Sharnbrook, both about 2 miles away, have other amenities. Harrold Lower and Middle Schools have good Ofsted reports and feed into Sharnbrook Upper School. Bedford, 9 miles away, has the independent Harpur Trust schools. The property is just 5 minutesu2019 walk from the Harrold Odell Country Park.
