Towcester has a claim to be the oldest town in Northamptonshire. Its origins can be traced back to the middle stone age and it appears to have been settled continuously since then with Mesolithic remains and evidence of Iron Age burials.  The town is also closely associated with the Romans for whom ‘Lactodorum’ was a walled garrison town on Watling Street, the Roman route to Chester and North Wales.

Behind its Georgian frontages today there is a range of independent shops and boutiques, many of which sell locally produced goods, including Elliott’s the butchers, which has had a shop in the town for 200 years.

Towcester’s coaching past is reflected in a number of buildings, including the 16th century Saracen’s Head and the 300 year old Brave Old Oak, just two of its many pubs, restaurants and cafes.

The town has an active community with activities and groups including an art society, boxing club, yoga, Zumba and a choral society meeting regularly.  Annual events include a May Day Fayre, a Midsummer Music Festival, and a Christmas Carol Concert and Market.  There are several golf courses in the area including a 36 hole championship course at Whittlebury Park Golf and Country Club.

Towcester is situated at the junction of the A5 and the A43, close to Towcester Racecourse, Silverstone and Stoke Bruerne. The town is 10 minutes from junction 15A of the M1, approximately 25 minutes from junction 10 of the M40 and 20 minutes from Milton Keynes and Northampton which have train connections to Euston in 36 and 46 minutes respectively.

Schools in the town include Nicholas Hawksmoor Primary School which was rated outstanding at its last Ofsted inspection and the secondary school, Sponne School, which was also rated Outstanding by Ofsted.  The Michael Graham website provides details on the local schools for each property listed.
