A Grade II Listed 17th century five bedroom detached house with a detached double garage, driveway parking and a one bedroom annexe in the centre of Aspley Guise.
The oldest parts of the house are of timber framed construction with red brick infill. Some reworking was done in the 19th century which included a single storey extension. Retained period features include fireplaces, exposed beams and the original servants bells. The property has over 3,100 sq. ft. of accommodation with four reception rooms, one of which can be used as a sixth bedroom if required. There is also a kitchen/breakfast room, a utility room and a cloakroom on the ground floor. On the lower ground floor there is a cellar and the old dairy which houses the gas boiler and hot water tank and has plumbing for a washing machine. There are three bedrooms, a bathroom and a shower room on the first floor with the remaining two bedrooms on the second floor. The master bedroom has a wardrobe recess and the other four bedrooms all have fitted wardrobes. Bedroom five also has access to a boarded loft space.
A highlight of the property is the triple aspect library which used to be the village library in Victorian times. The shelves were then boarded up and the vendors only discovered them while decorating when a hammer mistakenly knocked a hole in a wall to reveal the shelves beyond the walls. The room has oak panelling with inset book shelves on all four walls. The feature marble fireplace has display shelving and bookcases in the alcoves. The sash windows have wooden shutters.
The annexe has a dual aspect sitting room/bedroom with a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams and double glazed skylight windows. There is a feature brick inglenook fireplace and exposed wood flooring. The kitchen/dining room has a ceramic tiled floor, dual aspect windows and a cupboard housing a gas boiler. A range of base and drawer units incorporate a stainless steel sink and drainer with a mixer tap over. The shower room has a double shower cubicle, a washbasin, a WC and ceramic tiling.
The gardens, which surround the property, are laid mainly to lawn with well stocked beds and borders and are enclosed by a combination of walls, fences and mature hedgerow. Mature trees include a Cedar of Lebanon planted over 300 years ago when the house was built. There is parking for several cars on the gravel drive and a detached double garage with an up and over door, power and light connected. There is also an outside swimming pool with a paved surround and a cover.
Aspley Guise is set below the Greensand Ridge about 1 mile from the Bedford Estate woods.
