Hello summer: June and July events in Michael Graham’s region

This summer sees the welcome return of town festivals, village fetes and country shows in all their glory. We’re delighted to be out in the community again, supporting and enjoying many town and country events that are firm favourites in the region.

Many took place last year in a pared-back fashion, whereas others are returning for the first time in two years, including the Princes Risborough Summer Festival which promises to be an unmissable, no-holds barred event this July.

Here’s our round up of some of the highlights in our region, and when they’re happening:

24 - 26 June: The Buckingham Literary Festival

This popular literary festival brings a diverse mix of entertainment to the university’s riverside campus in the beautiful market town of Buckingham. Head to the website to book tickets for specific events including a performance of Shakespeare in the Garden and talks by well-known authors including acclaimed crime writer Mick Herron.

25 June: The Buckingham Carnival

This annual carnival in aid of Cancer Research UK takes place this year at Embleton Way in Buckingham. The theme this year is the Olympic Games but if you don’t want to join in with the running, walking and cycling, there are fairground rides, inflatables, live music and games for all ages. A Lanterns of Light Parade, when people can pause for a moment to reflect and remember loved ones lost to cancer, is a fitting close to the day at around 10.30pm.

25 June: Hartwell Primary School Summer Fete & Monks Risborough Primary School Summer Fair

Summer fetes and fairs are a great way for schools to raise funds and we hope that the Michael Graham roadside boards we put up around our region alert as many people as possible to these joyful events.  Hartwell Primary School in Hartwell village and Monks Risborough Primary School in Princes Risborough have lots of activities planned for their summer fetes and guarantee an afternoon of fun for all the family.

25 June: TASTE Bedford

TASTE Bedford returns to Russell Park this year, in collaboration with the Bedford GinFest team, ready to celebrate local chefs, cooks, eateries and producers. TASTE Bedford is a quintessentially British produce and craft market with activities for visitors of all ages and food tastes. This year sees the additional area TASTE@Home where you can find a wide range of local businesses with gorgeous home and garden ware, including exquisite metalwork sculptures and beautiful pottery and woodwork, many with a focus on eco-living and sustainability.

25 June: Mad Hatley Tea Party, Cockayne Hatley Bedford

Every year The Village Farmhouse Garden in Cockayne Hatley is host to a giant tea party from 11am to 4pm with funds raised split between the 12th century St John Baptist church and a chosen charity. The Firefighters Charity will receive the majority of the money raised this year, which will help in their work providing support to thousands of fire and rescue service workers, past and present, as well as their spouses and dependants. Michael Graham is delighted to be involved with this worthy cause and fabulous tea party which also has live music, games and a raffle and of course a fire engine and crew in attendance.

2 - 9 July: Princes Risborough Summer Festival

Back with a bang this year, this festival will be celebrating the very best of Princes Risborough’s town and community. Known as the gateway to the Chilterns, the market town is planning a week jam-packed with events showcasing everything that Risborough has to offer, including cocktail making masterclasses, yoga, park runs, and Heritage Society town walks, all culminating in a Street Festival on Saturday 9th July. Michael Graham is proud to be part of this vibrant community and the festival is a firm favourite in our sponsorship diary.

30 July Bucklersbury Day, Hitchin

This is the day when the shops and businesses in an historic quarter of the town throw open their doors for an afternoon of fun, music and entertainment. The town is proudly promising “a jolly old knees up” and our Michael Graham Hitchin branch on Bucklersbury is delighted to be taking part -  Branch Partner Philip Powell and his Cuban band are looking forward to contributing a Caribbean vibe to the day’s party atmosphere.
