Property description
A three bedroom converted former railway ticket office, with off street parking and a garden adjacent to the platform.
The building dates from 1872 and has rendered elevations under a slate tiled roof with decorative dental fascia. A covered porch with a moulded entrance portico leads to the hall. The kitchen has a range of fitted units and integrated appliances. The snug has stairs to the first floor and an opening to a dual aspect sitting room with Victorian style fireplace. Sliding doors open to the sunroom which has views over the cottage garden. There are two bedrooms and a shower room on the ground floor and the main bedroom is on the first floor and has an en suite bathroom and an adjacent office. The building was first used as a residence in the 1960s when the then station master bought it. In the 1970s a comprehensive conversion to a residential property was commissioned by the new owner. It is a rare opportunity to purchase an operational station that has been converted into a home.
About the House
The property is only 4 minutes drive from Chequers, a fact which is believed to have saved it from Beechings railway cuts in the 1960s as the Prime Minister, Harold Wilson, preferred to travel to and from Chequers by train rather than car. The station has the reputation of being the least used station in Buckinghamshire but in 1998 it received the British Royal Train. The G8 Summit was held in Birmingham that year and the wives of the leaders, including Cherie Blair and Hilary Clinton travelled via Little Kimble, before being transferred to Chequers by limousine.
Outside
A gravel drive, with mature raised shrub borders, gives access to a parking area. A five bar gate leads to the rear garden which is terraced and has a path leading down the garden between areas of lawn, further shrub borders and mature trees. At the end of the garden is a fenced vegetable, soft fruit and herb garden with raised beds. The gardens are bordered by hedging to the roadside and railings on the platform side. There are also two garden stores.
Situation and Schooling
Little Kimble is a village approximately 3 miles from Princes Risborough and is situated close to the Chiltern Hills. The market town of Princes Risborough (2.4 miles) has shops, restaurants, schooling for all ages (including private), a tennis and bowls club, a golf club, and a mainline railway station. Little Kimble Station is walking distance away and gives access to Princes Risborough and London Marylebone. The property is in catchment for Great Kimble C of E School (Ofsted rated Outstanding) and for Aylesbury Grammar Schools.
