Meet Michael Graham’s Lettings Instruction Manager
We caught up with Charlie Spalding to find out a bit more about a day in the life of a lettings instruction manager.
Charlie, where do you call home?
I am from Hitchin but currently live in a village in south Bedfordshire.
Tell us a little about your property career.
I have been working at Michael Graham for a little under one year. I started working in property because my dad owned a letting agency when I was young so it was familiar to me and having experience in retail it felt like it was the right path to choose. I began my journey as a Lettings Negotiator back in 2018 which quickly progressed to a senior role in my previous company. I decided to join Michael Graham to gain a better knowledge of property sales, however lettings is my area of expertise so it seemed only right to start by sharing what I knew.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Meeting new people has to be number one. Secondly, I love interiors so getting to look around people’s houses is also great fun.
Is there a typical day working in Lettings?
No day is ever the same, every landlord, tenant, property and location is totally different. I love the variety and I always enjoy the challenge of being able to tailor my services to each individual and take away from them all the stress connected with letting their property.
What do you think are the key services that a lettings agent can offer to a landlord?
The key is offering a realistic service, not over promising and under delivering. I also think having a reliable trustworthy agent that you know will have yours and the property’s best interest at heart is important.
Is there a secret to matching the perfect property with the perfect tenant?
There is no such thing as a perfect property or a perfect tenant however the perfect match can be found. I believe things can be done by agents and landlords in the process of renting a property out which can help you find the right person. Couldn’t possibly give any more trade secrets away!
What are your passions outside of work and what do you do to relax?
I am a big foodie so eating, drinking and socialising with friends and family is always a good way to relax. Besides that, and work, I have a cocker spaniel and he keeps me very busy.
