Making spring décor work for you
Recent weather might belie the fact, but spring is officially here. Whether you’re full of the joys, or the dank start of the season reflects your mood, there’s no better way to mark its arrival than by sprucing up your home.
We’ve chosen our favourite of this season’s key interior design trends to suit everyone, from the timid to the adventurous, and to cater for all budgets.
Blue – blue is the colour of 2015, and with so many ways of bringing a touch of blue into your décor, this is perhaps the most versatile trend. Try the powder blue and white New England stripe in a dining area, a teal feature wall (like the pictured bedroom, above), or navy accents in accessories – such as some pieces of iconic Burleigh blue and white pottery.
Wallpaper – the bolder, the better. You’ll see large-print florals in a multitude of hues, dazzling geometrics, and bright birds and butterflies. If you’re feeling extravagant, go 90s with an all-over pattern and print furnishings. Or, start with a feature wall and accent with a few colour-matched cushions.
Botanic – inspired by nature, bring the outside in with green leafy prints and rainforest shades. If you’d rather go for something softer, try Farrow and Ball’s Breakfast Room Green, one of the paint manufacturer’s four key colours for 2015.
Monochrome – this is ideal if you want to want to make a statement without going all-out in bright colours. If you’re tentative, then white walls with a dark grey chimney breast might be the way forward, coupled with a black and white patterned rug and pops of other shades.
Craft-inspired – crafting in all forms has surged in popularity in recent years, and there’s nothing more satisfying than seeing the fruits of your labour scattered throughout your home. Patchwork upholstery in pastel shades gives a spring feel, and you can personalise with heart-shaped trinkets.
If you’re thinking of investing in giving one room a complete overhaul, or want to add a few new accessories throughout to give your home a fresh feel, our pick of 2015’s styles will hopefully provide plenty of inspiration.
Of course, everyone has a different take on how to achieve a desired look in their home. Have you embraced one of the décor trends for this season? Why not share it with us? We’d love to see your photos and hear your ideas, so get in touch on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn.
