The weather’s warming up, the month has two bank holidays and a royal wedding is on the horizon. What’s not to love? Pop these dates in your diary so you don’t miss out.

5 May - Elstow Abbey Festival, Bedford. A traditional May Day celebration with a procession, crowning of a May Queen and May Pole dancing, along with a fun fair, live music and stalls.

5-13 May - Grand Designs Live, London. Whether you’re planning a self-build, renovation or adding the finishing touches, this is the place for inspiration and expert advice.

6 May - Houghton Conquest Art Exhibition.

7 May – Milton Keynes Marathon. Good luck if you’re taking part and if not, come along and support members of the Michael Graham team running to raise money for Citizens Advice MK.

12 May - Bedford Regatta on the River Great Ouse in the centre of town. One of the largest single day river regattas in the country.

12 May - Lathbury Fuchsia Sale. Get in the mood for both RHS Chelsea and the Royal wedding at this Buckinghamshire village event - stock up on plants and then browse the Wedding Fayre in the village church.

19 May - Royal Wedding. If you still haven’t received your invitation, don’t worry. Celebrations for Harry and Meghan’s big day are happening across the country. Put on your own or join a street party near you. For football fans, the FA Cup Final is also today.

20 May - Grafton Point to Point at Edgcote Racecourse, Banbury. Pack a picnic, gates open at 11am.

22 - 26 - RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The world’s most prestigious flower show. Still time to book tickets, if you’re quick.

28 May – Stone Village Fete, Aylesbury
