Home is where the heart is…
The annual Ideal Home Show kicked off on Friday, and promises to be another must-see event for foodies, gadget lovers, gardeners and interiors enthusiasts – in fact, anyone interested in making the most of their home.
This year’s show returns to London’s Olympia, where it was first hosted an incredible 107 years ago. A lot has changed since then, but this, the world’s biggest home show, still has everything you will need to make your house a home.
If you’re thinking about overhauling your bedroom colour scheme, looking to invest in a focal furniture piece for your dining room, or planning a major construction project, you’ll find inspiration galore among the many show sections and highlights – and of course, there are the three full-sized show homes to explore, too.
Here at Michael Graham, we deal in amazing homes all day, every day, and the launch of this year’s exhibition got us thinking about our own ideal homes. We all have different ideas about what makes a perfect home, and here are some of ours.
Ian Thomas, from Woburn Sands branch – The luxury home: “I love a bit of indulgence: top-end fixtures and appliances, underfloor heating, and crisp white corners or rich, opulent furnishings.” http://homedesignlover.com/living-room-designs/15-interior-design-ideas-of-luxury-living-rooms/
Richard Banks, from Bedford branch – The shabby chic vintage home: “Some soft, floral linens look beautiful among chalk-painted furniture and a country kitchen sideboard displaying vintage teapots.” http://www.housetohome.co.uk/room-idea/picture/shabby-chic-decorating-ideas/1
Gavin Mills, from Milton Keynes branch – The techno home: “A huge, transparent TV and the latest technology in every room – such as a digital oven and 3D wall panelling – is my idea of heaven.” http://www.designyourway.net/blog/inspiration/30-cool-high-tech-gadgets-to-give-your-home-a-futuristic-look/
Gareth Paul, from Olney branch – The comfy home: “For me, a home needs a large sofa you can just sink into, a roaring fire, and throws and ottomans galore.” http://www.housebeautiful.com/home-remodeling/interior-designers/tips/g19/comfortable-home-design/
Graham Robson, from Princess Risborough branch – The retro home: “I’m a huge fan of mid-century inspired décor, geometric furniture and bold colours. And an original G Plan side table is a must!” http://uktv.co.uk/home/item/aid/641515
Some of us are lucky enough to live in idyllic surroundings, while for others, the perfect home is a pipe dream (but dreams can come true…)
So, what makes your ideal home? Is it the décor and furnishings, or the ambience? Is it a peaceful retreat in the countryside, or a house buzzing with the activity of a busy family life? We want to hear from you – so let us know through our social media channels.
