Five kitchens fit for a star baker

Since 2010 and now in its seventh series, the Great British Bake Off has ingrained itself into British culture; so much so that when it was announced that the BBC was not going to renew the show for an eighth run, the universe almost went into meltdown.

Die-hard fans will be able to pick up the deliciously moreish series on Channel 4 – albeit minus a few key ingredients (the legends that are Mary Berry and Mel and Sue) – but while we digest the impending changes, there’s no better excuse to get our bake on.

If you were the owner of one of these fabulous kitchens, you’d be sure to create many a tasty treat the most talented of star bakers would be proud of.

Hollywood glamour: The Limes, Weathercock Lane, Woburn Sands

Clean, modern lines make this impeccable kitchen a minimalist’s dream. With gadgets galore, a bake off in here will be easy as pie! While you’re waiting for the perfect rise, you can relax with a glass of something from that rather special wine cooler.

Chocolate box: The Barn, Towcester Road, Milton Malsor

A pretty grade II listed barn conversion is the home of this traditional country kitchen with a 21st century twist – a delightful backdrop for an afternoon’s baking. Even the crumbiest of cooks would rise to a technical challenge in here.

Signature dish: Lemsford House, Brocket Road, Lemsford

Roll up, roll up… If there were awards for top kitchens, this one would be a choux-in. This cracking kitchen is not only the hub of this lovely family home, it’s also a little pitta paradise for those who love to cook.

Berry nice indeed: Green Oak Barn, London Road, Hitchin

This beautiful kitchen is perfect for entertaining, with its glass slanted roof and sliding doors opening up onto the courtyard garden area. There’s plenty of space for competent cooks to get creative, and room for a baker’s dozen around the table.

The showstopper: North Lodge, Filgrave

We’re huge flans of this kitchen, in which you could bake to your heart’s content while looking over the property’s three acres of land. Forget your limp biscuits and your soggy bottoms, this space is really raisin its game.
